Above is a picture of a Coelacanth. These fish were thought to have gone extinct about 65 million years ago with the dinosaurs. They are very elusive and live at great depths of up to 2,300 feet down. They can also be huge, some reaching up to 6.5 feet or more and weighing about 198 pounds. Some scientists estimate that these fish can live up to 60 years and beyond. There is not an exact estimate as to what their numbers are because they are not very well known. They are considered an endangered species.

There are six species of air breathing lungfishes. These animals are characterized by the possession of one or more lungs. These fish are nearly blind and mainly use sensory structures to sense for movement and location of prey. They feed on a variety of organisms such as other small fishes.
