The Phylum Schizonta mainly consists of photobacteria. This includes bioluminscent bacteria that live in the ocean. When they are agitated, these organisms emit light (caused by an oxidation reaction) that creates a mesmerizing display. Some photobacteria live in symbiosis with other organisms such as squid and fish. The bacteria usually lives in the gut of the animal which provides a safe environment to feed in. In turn, the fish or squid use the light from these bacteria as camouflage, communication signals, escaping predators, or attracting mates.
